The U-wing starfighter/support craft is a versatile Rebel Alliance ship introduced in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Officially designated the UT-60D, the U-wing was designed by Incom Corporation, the same manufacturer behind the iconic X-wing. Its primary role is as a troop transport and gunship, capable of delivering soldiers into battle zones while providing covering fire.
The U-wing features a unique design with forward-swept wings that can pivot into a rear-facing position for atmospheric flight stability or combat maneuvering. This dual-wing configuration gives it a distinctive silhouette and tactical flexibility. It’s equipped with powerful laser cannons and deflector shields, making it capable of holding its own in skirmishes while supporting ground operations.
Inside, the U-wing has a spacious cabin that can carry multiple passengers, including troops or special operatives. It also includes a side-mounted sliding door for rapid deployment and extraction, which proved crucial during missions like the raid on Scarif. The cockpit seats two pilots, and the ship can be crewed by a gunner as well.
In Rogue One, the U-wing piloted by Cassian Andor and K-2SO plays a pivotal role in transporting Jyn Erso and the team to key mission locations. Its rugged design and adaptability made it a favorite among Rebel commanders for covert operations and high-risk insertions.
Overall, the U-wing symbolizes the Rebel Alliance’s resourcefulness—combining firepower, transport capability, and tactical versatility in one sleek, battle-ready craft.
